Simple treatments such as steroid injections can take place at the first consultation. Alternatives to having an operation will be covered which sometimes need referral to another health professional such as a Hand Therapist.

Surgery:

If surgery is required details will be explained including method of anaesthetic, expected outcome, recovery time, and possible complications.

A date for surgery can be arranged at the time of consultation and can usually take place within a couple of weeks or whenever convenient to fit in with work commitments, holidays, carers, etc.  These can take place at the BMI Harbour Hospital, Poole on Friday mornings or at the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital on Monday Mornings.

Patients will always have a letter sent through to their GP keeping them informed of any treatment.   If patients undergo surgery then appropriate measures will be taken to arrange follow up including dressing changes, suture removal, post op physiotherapy or dedicated hand therapy.
